ZIP is for packaging, not always shrinking
A ZIP file is useful when you want to send many files as one download, keep a folder structure together, or extract an archive without installing a desktop utility. It can also reduce size, but not every file gets smaller.
Photos, videos, modern PDFs, and many app files are already compressed. Zipping them may package them neatly but save little space. Text files, CSV files, logs, and some document sets usually compress better.
The ZIP Tool lets you create ZIP files or extract supported ZIP archives locally in the browser.
Quick workflow
Open ZIP Tool, choose Create ZIP to package files, or Extract ZIP to inspect and download files from an archive. Keep the page open while it works, then download the result before closing the tab.
Use File Size Checker before or after packaging if you need to fit a size limit.
Creating a ZIP file
Use a ZIP when you need one clean attachment instead of many loose files. Add the files, choose the compression style, create the archive, and download it.
Balanced compression is a good first choice. Fast compression is useful when packaging matters more than saving size. Store without compression is useful when files are already compressed and you mainly need one container.
The original files do not change. The browser creates a new archive that you download.
Extracting a ZIP file
When you open a ZIP archive, review the file list before downloading. Extract only what you need if the archive is large.
Supported password-protected ZIP files can be opened with the correct password. This version does not create password-protected ZIP files, and it does not support RAR, 7Z, or split archives.
The tool checks for unsafe paths and unusual expansion to protect the device from problematic archives.
Limits and privacy
Processing happens locally in the browser. File contents and passwords are not uploaded to the IGY Apps server for compression or extraction.
Limits depend on the device. Phones and low-memory devices use lower limits, while desktop-class devices can handle larger input and extracted sizes. The interface shows the active limit before you work.
If your goal is reducing the size of a PDF or images, use a dedicated compressor first: PDF Compressor for PDFs, or Image Compressor for image files.
