Adam sat under the grapevine in his garden. The bunches of grapes hung above him like little green and purple lanterns, and the leaves moved softly in the breeze.
On the ground, Adam noticed a long line of ants marching neatly. At the front was a tiny ant named Nima, who kept turning back to make sure her friends were following.
Adam smiled to himself.
👦 What if I put a huge grape in their path? They will think it is treasure!
He climbed onto a chair, picked a shiny grape, and rolled it gently until it stopped beside the ant line.
A Sweet Treasure
Nima walked closer to the big grape. She circled it, touched it with her tiny feelers, and gasped.
🐜 Friends! I found a sweet mountain!
She tried to move the grape by herself, but it was far too large. So she ran back to the other ants and called:
🐜 Come quickly. There is a grape big enough for everyone!
The ants hurried after her in a neat line. But Adam, thinking it was funny, had already lifted the grape away.
Nima stared at the empty spot.
🐜 It was here. Please believe me, it was here!
The other ants looked at one another. They did not know what to think. Nima felt sad, because she had told the truth.

A Joke That Was Too Heavy
Nima waited for a moment, then turned back toward the line. Just then, Adam placed the grape behind her again. When Nima saw it, she cheered:
🐜 Look! The grape is back!
But when her friends arrived, Adam had hidden it again.
Nima's voice became small.
🐜 I am not making it up. I saw it with my own eyes.
This time Adam stopped laughing. His joke did not feel funny anymore. He had made Nima sad, and he had made her friends doubt her words.
Adam whispered to himself:
👦 A joke that hurts someone is not a kind joke.
An Apology Under the Vine
Adam placed the grape in front of the ants and did not hide it again. Then he bent down gently and said:
👦 I am sorry, Nima. I thought I was joking, but I made things hard for you.
The ants gathered around the grape and saw that Nima had been telling the truth. An older ant said:
🐜 We are sorry, Nima. We should have asked calmly before doubting you.
Nima wiped her tears and smiled a little. She did not carry the grape alone. All the ants worked together. They pushed a little, pulled a little, and moved it to a safe shady spot near their home.

From that day on, Adam asked himself one question before joking: Will everyone laugh, or will someone feel hurt?
And Nima liked to say:
🐜 Teamwork makes a big grape lighter, and a kind word makes a heart lighter too.

- A good joke should not make someone sad or afraid.
- When we make a mistake, a sincere apology helps repair it.
- We should not call someone untruthful before we understand what happened.
- Teamwork helps us solve things that seem too big.
