Why compress a PDF in the browser?

PDF files can become too large for email, job portals, school systems, customer forms, and messaging apps. A file may contain only a few pages, but high-resolution images or unoptimized streams can make it heavy.

Pick the right compression level

Preserve quality is the safest option. It optimizes the PDF structure and streams without intentionally reducing image quality. The saving may be small, but the file should stay visually close to the original.

Balanced is the practical default. It can recompress compatible images while keeping a normal visual quality for sharing, forms, and email.

Strong compression is for files that must fit a limit. It may reduce image quality more clearly, so check pages that include photos, screenshots, scans, stamps, or signatures.

What the tool does not do

The compressor does not turn every page into a screenshot. That matters because searchable text, links, forms, Arabic text, and vector graphics can stay part of the PDF when the source allows it.

It also does not overwrite your original file. If the generated output is not smaller, the tool keeps the original bytes and explains that the PDF is already well optimized.

Privacy and file limits

Compression runs inside a short-lived browser worker. Your PDF is not uploaded to the IGY Apps server for compression.

The limit depends on the device: up to 100 MB on suitable computers, and 50 MB on phones or low-memory devices. Very large PDFs may temporarily use much more memory while being processed, so keep other heavy tabs closed if the file is large.

Encrypted PDFs and digitally signed PDFs are rejected in this version because rewriting them can break protection or invalidate signatures.

A clean PDF workflow

Use this order when a PDF needs more than one step:

1. Edit or annotate the document first.
2. Merge or reorder pages if needed.
3. Compress the final version.
4. Check the final file size.
5. Add password protection only after the final content is ready.
